This week will will continue a mini-study on MONEY…

Last week we saw in the Book of Acts that new Christians in Antioch gave generously to a “famine relief fund” for Christian brothers and sisters in Jerusalem. This led us to our mini-study about giving, generosity, and money.

I want to tell you how much I appreciated all of you and how you received the message last week. These passages we are looking at show us God’s view of money and how we can change the way we think about it. I know that money is an emotional issue for all of us. But it can also be a powerful addiction that robs us of  our joy and a vibrant life with Jesus.

That’s why we need to talk about it. We need to look at God’s Word and see where he may want us to adjust our thinking.

Thanks for your willingness to allow me to lead us into the scripture in this. God is teaching me in this area and I believe he will teach you as well.

To prepare, you may want to review Malachi 3:8-10 (we looked at that last week). Then read 1 Timothy 6:6-10, 17-19; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15; and Matthew 6:19-34. We’ll probably cover 1 Timothy and 2 Corinthians tomorrow and look at Matthew 6 next week.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week, we will continue in our study of Acts. Last week we looked at Acts 11 and saw the beginning of the church in Antioch. I want to stay in Acts 11 for one more week– and expound (ooo, big word) a little on Acts 11:27-30.

To prepare, you may also want to read:

Malachi 3:8-10

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

1 Timothy 6:9-10

Matthew 6:19-24

If you read these scripture, you will see that God is talking about something that effects every single one of us. In fact, it is about something we all think about or focus on every single day in one way or another. Even though this is true about all of us, we don’t like to talk about it with others and we really don’t like to hear about it in church.

Have I piqued your interest enough to make you want to read the passages above? I hope so.  But please, still come after you find out what we’ll be talking about. As God’s people, we need to hear about it. As your pastor, I need to preach about it. I pray that I have earned your trust enough for you to know that I am not going to try to make you feel guilty or manipulate you.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

It was a bit strange to write the title of the post this week. Especially 10 years after 9-11. As we take time this weekend to remember the tragic events of 10 years ago, we are faced with a very common human question: how do we respond when things seem out of control, wrong, unjust, and/or chaotic?

Do you ever find your self questioning God? Wondering why events are playing out the way they are or don’t play out the way you think they should? Do you ever feel like your actions or behaviors are preventing God from blessing you and or your efforts?

I think if we’re honest, we all struggle with thoughts like these from time to time– or maybe even constantly. As we open God’s Word tomorrow, we will get some answers to the questions above– and we shall see that we can have joy and hope in a world where 9-11’s still happen. To prepare, read chapter 11 of the Book of Acts. It is the story of God working in and through people who had questions and struggles just like us.

I hope you can joins us tomorrow…

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and Peace,

Doug

Good morning and welcome to September! I know that this is a time of beginnings for a lot of you. This time of year often brings change to our daily routines…

The weather has cooled a bit (it’s nice to have the windows open!). School has started or will start for many families.  And there are a lot of other activities kicking off (including college and pro football!).

This week we’re continuing our study of the Book of Acts and looking at a story that’s all about change, and new beginnings. It’s not about activities or routines– it’s about changed hearts and changed lives. The scripture we will be looking at is Acts 10. It is the story of a Roman soldier named Cornelius who has an encounter with Peter and through that meets Jesus Christ. And once that happens, Cornelius really experiences a new beginning!

So take some time today to read Acts 10 and listen for what God is saying to you… I believe that God has something new for each of us– and we just need to trust him to receive it.

I can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!

Grace and peace,

Doug
