Last week we looked at vision and how important it was in accomplishing the task of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was very clear in the vision God gave him;

Nehemiah 2:17-18

17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” 18 I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me.

And the people respond to the vision with conviction and determination…

Nehemiah 2:18b-19

They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

But now that the decision is made, it requires people to see the vision carried out.

Read Nehemiah 3 this week to meet the folks who actually make the vision a reality. I will warn you, however, this is not easy reading. It is a list of names and places and sections of Jerusalem. It can be tedious to read through– and it is very tempting to scan of even skip.

But when we look more closely, we will see some amazing truths and principles in this part of God’s Word. It is so compelling, in fact, that I believe we will need 2 weeks to cover chapter 3.

My prayer is that you will be amazed– as I have been– at the depth and richness of God Word even when it appears very basic (you’ll understand what I mean when you read Nehemiah 3!)

Make sure you check out Grace2F Happenings below because there are several opportunities for FELLOWSHIP coming up!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

RUSSELL HOUSE MINISTRY
As many of you know, I preach monthly on Sunday afternoons at the Hilltop Gospel Church that meets in the Russell House apartments across First Colonial Road from our church.
I want to invite any one interested in joining me to minister to the residents with a smile, hug, and conversation. Yes, you would have to listen to me twice in one day, but the message is usually shorter and the service is great.
This month, I am actually going to be there 3 times (June 2, June 16, and June 30).
The service begins promptly at 2:00pm and lasts just under an hour. I would love to have you join me and experience the joy of loving on these folks (and being loved in return!)

Clever name, huh? Well, in my time in ministry I have spent hours in meetings to come up with cool, relevant, and engaging names for services, meetings, and ministries. I figured I’d just name it what it is… A chance to gather and look at Scripture together during the week.

So, I want to invite you to join us for a great opportunity to get to know each other a little better, look at some scripture, and see how we can apply it to our lives.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Each week, you will get an e-mail with the study (Scripture passage and questions to consider) a few days before the group meets.
  • Then, someone will explain a little bit about the passage and we’ll read it.
  • After that, we go through the questions and hear what you and others think about the passage and issues it relates to.

This week we will continue our series in the Book of Nehemiah by looking at Nehemiah 2:10-20.

Over the last several weeks we have used the story of Nehemiah to discover principles we can apply in the restoration projects in our own lives– and we have seen how Jesus is the ultimate restorer, renewer and rebuilder.

In the passage this week we will learn about another “brick” Nehemiah gives us. See if you can figure out what it might be ahead of time. It’s found in Nehemiah 2:12. Then, next week we’ll see an 8th brick from this passage as well (Nehemiah 2:17-18). I encourage you to read the passage a few times this week and reflect on what is happening.

Be sure to look below for info regarding the Grace2F Wednesday Night Bible Study starting May 29th!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series in the Book of Nehemiah. We have been talking about bricks we see in the story that can help us rebuild and restore walls in our own lives. In week one, we set up the series by looking at the historical context of the book and how Nehemiah is a type of Christ– foreshadowing the life and work of Jesus. In week 2, we were handed bricks of listening, compassion, and action (Nehemiah took his concerns to God). In week 3, we saw the brick of prayer as a primary initial action to take when facing any problem. Finally, in week 4, we grabbed the brick of patience.

This Sunday we will look at another brick that is important in all of our lives. We find it in Nehemiah 2:1-10 (especially in verses 6-9… see if you can discover it ahead of time!).

I want to thank everyone who participated in last week’s prayer service. It is great to know that when I am gone we still gather together to worship. I had a great time in South Florida speaking at Lighthouse of Life church. As a special bonus I got to spend a lot of time with my day and his wife as they happened to be visiting at the same time. Thanks for your prayers!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
