This week we continue our series called  The Lord of the Story.

Last week we learned that Moses was called by God to deliver the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt.

This week we move forward in Exodus and come to the Passover.  In Exodus 7-11, we see 10 plagues that God brought against Egypt. The tenth plague was the death of every firstborn in the country. But in Exodus 12, we see that God provides a way of salvation for the firstborn of Israel. In this we also catch a glimpse of the bigger story of the salvation of all mankind.

Read Exodus 7-11 and then focus on Exodus 12. It is the first of thousands of years of the Passover.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we continue our series called  The Lord of the Story.

Last week we took a look at Exodus chapter 3 and the Call of Moses. We learned 3 very important foundational principles:

1) Moses was a real person just like you

2) God is alive and active in the world right now

3) God uses his people to accomplish his will.

We also saw that when God called, Moses felt inadequate to fulfill the mission… And so, he made some excuses to get out of it. God, however, is not so easy to dissaude.

This week we will continue to study the story of the Call of Moses and see how it turns out. We will see a bit of ourselves in Moses’ concerns– but we will see a God who is committed to us and to using us in incredible ways!

To prepare, re-read chapters 3 and 4 of Exodus… And listen to see what God is calling you to be.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

The Lord of the Story– The Call of Moses

Series: The Lord of the Story

We fast forward to the Book of Genesis. The Israelites find themselves living in Egypt oppressed as slaves. God shows up and calls a man named Moses to perform a specific task.

In this message we come face-to-face with a God who uses people like you and me to carry out his will in the world.

This week we continue our series called  The Lord of the Story.

Moving out of Genesis into Exodus, we will see The Call of Moses and discover two very important things: 1) Moses’ reaction to the call; an 2) God calls us the same way.

This is a look at one of the more prominent human figures in Scripture– and yet, we shall see, he is not much different than any of us. I hope you can come to hear an incredible story about an extraordinary God who uses ordinary people to accomplish unbelievable things.

It will be hard not to picture Charlton Heston when you read about Moses, so I went ahead a gave you an image. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you are young.

To prepare, I suggest you read chapters 1-4 of Exodus. Chapters 1 and 2 will set up the story of Moses but we will focus on chapters 3 and 4 over the next two weeks.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

The Lord of the Story– Jacob Steals a Blessing

February 9, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Lord of the Story

In Genesis 27 we see the story of Jacob fooling his father into giving him the blessing instead of his older brother Esau. What a strange way for God to continue the line of the Messiah!

What does this story say about God? What does it say about us? What’s all this talk of “blessing” all about?

This week we continue our series called  The Lord of the Story.

This week we will catch a brief glimpse of another Biblical hero who may surprise you. His name is Jacob and he is the second son (the younger twin) of Isaac (Abraham’s son). In this story, the “hero” steals the blessing of his father from his brother (not very nice at all).

What is happening here? What does it mean to me? Why does God tell his story using a conniving schemer like Jacob? For answers to these and other questions come Sunday.

To prepare you can read all about Jacob in Genesis 25-33… The particular story we will focus on is found in Genesis 27:1-35.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

The Lord of the Story– Abraham

Series: The Lord of the Story

In Genesis 12, God chooses Abram (he later changes his name to Abraham) to be the man who God would bless the world through.

As we look at Abraham’s story, we see our own because it is a powerful story of God’s grace and faithfullness– then, now, and forever!
