September 27th News: Love One Another

This Sunday we will begin a new series entitled, Love One Another.

The New Testament is full of commands about how we are to relate to other people in the church. In them, we see practical application of  what Jesus called the greatest commandment— to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Also in the New Testament we are told, as a Christian, you are part of God’s family, the body of Christ, a spiritual house. This is an incredible description of the Church (universal world-wide and throughout history) and the church (a local gathering of believers).

For the next several weeks we will look at the “one anothers” of scripture to learn how to love each other as God intends. I believe that this is important for each of us as we discover the beauty and power of being part of God family in the church.

To prepare, read Romans 12:1-13. As you look at this passage, see if you can discover the “one another” I will be talking about this Sunday.

I want to encourage everyone who calls Grace Family Fellowship their church home to commit yourself to coming each week during this series. We are going to discover that we need others and they need us.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series-The Greatest Commandment

Message: Love God

In In Mark 12:28-34, Jesus is asked about the greatest commandment in the law. He answers, basically, “Love God and love others.” What does it mean to love God? More importantly, have you received the love God has for you?

Series-The Great

est Commandment

This Sunday we

will continue to look at Jesus’ answer to this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

We need to pay attention to the answer, don’t we? The greatest person who ever lived is about to sum up everything contained in the greatest book ever written to reveal the greatest truth ever conveyed… That’s pretty important stuff, huh?

Here’s how Jesus answered: Love God and love others.

Pretty straightforward… Pretty challenging. Join us as we consider in metail these two commands in more detail.

To prepare, read Matthew 22:34-40 (this is the scripture we looked at last week), Mark 12:28-34 (this is the same story in the gospel of Mark), and 1 Samuel 15:1-23.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series-The Greatest Commandment

Message: The One Thing

In Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus is asked about the greatest commandment in the law. His answer is very interesting–and provides an insight into what it means to love God.

Series-The Book of James: Faith + Action

This Sunday we will conclude our study of the Book of James by seeing another area of life that we are called to submit to God. Last week we talked about submitting our treasure– money and possessions– to God. This is no easy task. And this week, we address, perhaps, an even more difficult area of life that we need to submit to God: suffering.

James ends his book where he started by talking about trials and testing. He was writing to Christians who were undergoing great persecution and suffering, and James wanted to focus their attention on God.

He is writing to us as well. We all experience suffering in life. In fact, many of us are in the midst of very difficult and trying situations right now. What does James say to us?

To prepare for this Sunday, read James 5:7-20 and James 1:2-4 (you will see how he begins and ends on the same topic). And come Sunday ready to lay whatever you are dealing with at the foot of the cross. My prayer is that you will find encouragement and hope in the words James shares– the words God wants you to hear this Sunday.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
