Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus and Simon of Cyrene

Last week, we saw that Jesus was condemned to death by Pontius Pilate.

Now Jesus begins the journey to Golgotha for his execution by crucifixion. Along the way, we meet a pilgrim who had come to Jerusalem for the Passover. His name is Simon, and he will be forced to help Jesus carry his cross.

But this is not a chance meeting. God is at work amidst the evil surrounding everything that is happening.

If we move on too quickly from Simon of Cyrene, we will miss the miracle.

To prepare, read Mark 15:21… And then come Sunday to see how God can work all things out for good in spite of the circumstances.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

July 23rd News: Jesus Before Pilate– Jesus and Barabbas

Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus Before Pilate- Jesus and Barabbas

It is now mid-morning. Jesus has been to Pilate, was sent to Herod, and is now sent back to Pilate. The trial is about to reach its climax. And a new character is thrust into the action. His name is Barabbas and he plays an unsuspecting role in this divine drama. Although Pilate continues to proclaim Jesus’ innocence, the religious leaders are unwavering: They will settle for nothing less that a death sentence.

To prepare, read John 18:39-19:16.

Also, I want to thank everyone who participated in our potluck gathering last Tuesday. It was a blast with some pretty amazing food and fellowship.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

July 16th News: Jesus Before Pilate– What Is Truth?

July 14, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus Before Pilate- What Is Truth?

It is now early morning. The sun has just come up and the religious leaders now present Jesus to the Roman authorities. They begin with Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea. In this first exchange with Pilate, Jesus responds to the governor’s questions. When Pilate discovers that Jesus is from Galilee, he sends the prisoner to Herod for judgement.

As we walk with Jesus through his time before the civil authorities, we continue to see that they can find no charge against him. Yet, the trial continues. We also see that Jesus cannot be ignored. Everyone must deal with the carpenter from Nazareth- and that is true today as well.

To prepare, read John 18:28-38 and Luke 23:10-12.

Also, we are having a Summer Potluck Dinner this Tuesday (July 18th) from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Haupt’s house (1317 Conrad Lane, Virginia Beach, 23454). If you can, bring some food to share and join us!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

July 9th News: Jesus Before Caiaphas

July 7, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus Before Caiaphas

After Annas, the former high priest, could not find anything with which to charge Jesus, Jesus is sent to Caiaphas the current High Priest. With him are members of the Sanhedrin and they continue to search for something to charge against Jesus.

In this second Jewish/religious trial, we see the frustration of the religious leaders and the calm determination of Jesus.

To prepare, read Matthew 26:57-67 and Mark 14:53-65. You will see that these accounts are similar with one small difference (that is very important).

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours that Changed the World

Message: Jesus Before Annas

This is the first of six trials Jesus endures before his crucifixion. Annas, the former high priest attempts to find a charge against Jesus. This is a difficult task because it is impossible to find a charge against someone without sin.
