This week we will conclude our series What It Means to be a Disciple of Jesus.

Over the last 9 weeks we have seen that a disciple displays several characteristics. We talked about how a disciple is:

1) A Student— Constantly reading and thinking about the Word of God

2) A Prayer— Regularly talking with and listening to God

3) A Worshipper–Continually acknowledging who God is, who I am and how He relates to me

4) A Friend— Consistently involved with fellow believers in the context of a church community

5) A Neighbor— Repeatedly reaching out to those outside the church community to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs

6) A Missionary— Intentionally going out to spread the gospel and “neighbor” with those far away

7) A Servant— Willingly giving of yourself to benefit and bless others

8) A Messenger— Habitually sharing the gospel– Good News– of Jesus with others

9) A Giver— Commonly sharing your money and possessions with those in need

As we finish this series, we will see that a disciple then pours into others by “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:20). In other words, a disciple then becomes a TEACHER– reproducing themselves and what they have learned in others.

This may seem a bit intimidating. Most of us feel that we are not really great disciples in the first place– how are we supposed to teach others how to be one?!? A key is found in the first word of each of the descriptions… Another key is at the end of The Great Commission.

To prepare read The Great Commission this week– Matthew 28:18-20.

And if you feel overwhelmed about being a teach in discipling,  remember a phrase we have used before:

God does not call the equipped, he equips the called.

Discipleship is not a mystery to be solved, a formula to be memorized, or a program to be implement… It is a life to be lived– and God’s design for using his people to restore the world.

Pretty cool stuff, huh? And just think, he chose you to be a part of it…

Looking forward to Sunday!!
