For the last two weeks we have been studying Acts 20 and 21. In these chapters, we see Paul interacting with Christian brothers and sisters. We talked about spiritual friendship— and how spiritual friendship is:

1) Needed

2) Discovered (not just made)

3) Made (not just discovered)

4) Forever

As I have prepared for these messages, I’ve been convicted about how important Christian community is for each of us. And I have realize that the busyness of every day life unleashes a constant assault to intimate relationships (of any kind). Someone once said, “Busyness is not of the devil, it is the devil.” I think there is some truth to that.

So, before we move on to the rest of our study of the Book of Acts, I want us to continue to explore this idea of spiritual friendship and Christian community. After all, that is what the church is designed for!

To prepare for this week, we will move out of Acts and look at Hebrews 10:19-25. I will give you the verses. Read these and see what the writer of Hebrews has to say about fellowship/community/spiritual friendship. We will focus on four practical ways to relate to one another– and see what it means to be part of a church.

Here is the passage we’ll been looking at:

A Call to Persevere in Faith

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another —and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
