Series: The Heart of the Ten Commandments
This week we will look at the third commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11…
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
There are a lot of questions that come to mind when we read this commandment. What can we do on the sabbath and what is forbidden? What does it mean to “keep it holy”? Why is it so important to God?
Each of these 10 commandments challenge each of us on many different levels. I believe this one is marginalized and abused by all of us- I know that God has been convicting me about how I approach this command.
But I believe that we will see, once again, that there is incredible beauty and love and grace in these words. And I believe that God has some things to say to you that will bless you this week!
Looking forward to Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Doug
