This Sunday we will continue our three-part series called What Is the Gospel?

Two weeks ago, we talked about the Historical Aspect of the Gospel. The reality is that the gospel is news about what has already been done, not advice about how to live.

The gospel nutshell we discovered (with the help of Pastor Tim Keller) was:

Jesus Christ lived the life you should have lived and died the death you should have died as your substitute—in your place—so that God can receive you not for your record and your sake but for Jesus’ record and his sake.

Last Sunday, we talked about the Sonship (or Identity) Aspect of the Gospel. This one, too, is a unique aspect of Christianity– and must be understood so that a believer can walk in freedom and joy as God desires. This aspect focuses on the fact that the gospel is a  status you receive now, not just a reward you receive later.

In other words, the gospel changes your identity entirely.

Gospel in a nutshell:

You are more wicked and flawed than you ever dared believe, but you more loved and accepted than you ever dared hope—at the same time.

Finally, this week, we will talk about the Kingdom aspect of the gospel– and see that the gospel represents an almost total reversal of the world’s values. In other words, the gospel shows us (and enables us) to live “right-side up” in an “up-side down” world.

To prepare, read Philippians 2:1-11.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
