November 23rd News- You Shall Not Steal

November 21, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Heart of the Ten Commandments

This week we will look at the Eighth commandment found in Exodus 20:15…

You shall not steal.

We are in a section of the 10 Commandments that deals with how we can best relate to others and it seems pretty obvious that this is an important way to live with others in community.

Most people would probably say they follow this commandment pretty well. But as we’ve seen, there is more to “do not steal” than meets the eye. There is also a beautiful antecdote to the heart issue that leads to stealing.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

November 16th News- You Shall Not Commit Adultery

November 11, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Heart of the Ten Commandments

This week we will look at the sixth commandment found in Exodus 20:14…

You shall not commit adultery.

We are in a section of the 10 Commandments that deals with how we can best relate to others. Like “You shall not murder,” this command seems pretty straight forward. But, as we have discovered, these commandments require a great deal of thought to understand what is at their heart.

For example, this command seems like it could only be applied by those who are married. My computer dictionary give this definition for adultery:

voluntary sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his or her spouse

But God had much more in mind than just faithfulness between a husband and wife. In fact, this command applies to all of us– married or not.

Come this Sunday to find out moreā€¦ And see how Jesus–who was never married on this earth– fulfills it.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
