This Sunday we will continue our study of the Book of Acts. To prepare, read Acts 23:12–24:27.

I want to encourage you to join us. It is very easy to slowly move away from church and a faith family as the busyness of life consumes us. Before you know it, you have moved away from the things of God and spirituality. That’s one of the reasons we need to gather regularly. We need to see each other. To catch up. To worship together.

Finally, take some time to reflect on those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Memorial Day is actually a very Christian concept– every week we gather to remember what Jesus accomplished on our behalf by laying down his life for us.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Happy saturday all you Friends of Grace family fellowship!

This week, we will continue our study of the Book of Acts… We’ll cover a lot of territory talking about Acts 21:10–22:29. In this passage we see what happens when Paul returns to Jerusalem.

Notice what happens as Paul follows Jesus. He believes that the Holy Spirit has told him to return to Jerusalem. This is important to see because we will experience things when we follow Jesus too. As we see Paul’s situations, we may be able to see ours as well.

Looking forward to Sunday!

For the last two weeks we have been studying Acts 20 and 21. In these chapters, we see Paul interacting with Christian brothers and sisters. We talked about spiritual friendship— and how spiritual friendship is:

1) Needed

2) Discovered (not just made)

3) Made (not just discovered)

4) Forever

As I have prepared for these messages, I’ve been convicted about how important Christian community is for each of us. And I have realize that the busyness of every day life unleashes a constant assault to intimate relationships (of any kind). Someone once said, “Busyness is not of the devil, it is the devil.” I think there is some truth to that.

So, before we move on to the rest of our study of the Book of Acts, I want us to continue to explore this idea of spiritual friendship and Christian community. After all, that is what the church is designed for!

To prepare for this week, we will move out of Acts and look at Hebrews 10:19-25. I will give you the verses. Read these and see what the writer of Hebrews has to say about fellowship/community/spiritual friendship. We will focus on four practical ways to relate to one another– and see what it means to be part of a church.

Here is the passage we’ll been looking at:

A Call to Persevere in Faith

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another —and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Looking forward to Sunday!

This week we are continuing our study of the Book of Acts. We will, again, look at Acts 20-Acts 21:16 and finish up our look at Spiritual Friendship that we started last week.

As you read, see if you can remember what we said about this idea of friendship– friendship on a spiritual level. To help, I want to remind you of the four points we mentioned:

1) Spiritual Friendship is Needed

2) Spiritual Friendship is Discovered (not just Made)

3) Spiritual Friendship is Made (not just Discovered)

4) Spiritual Friendship is Forever

As I said last week, I believe this is incredibly relevant in our lives today. We all want deep, rich relationships… We’ll be pondering how we can enjoy them as God intended.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Well, the warmer weather has arrived and it’s starting to get nice outside.

I hope you have had a chance to enjoy it and are having a great week. This Sunday we will continue our study of the Book of Acts. To prepare, read Acts 20– Acts 21:16. This is a time when the life of Paul begins to make a dramatic change– and we will see some things that can help us in our ever-changing lives.

I also want to remind you of the Hilltop Community Church work day this Saturday (4/21) from 9am-5pm. You can drop in anytime and leave when you have to– but this is a chance to do some work on the grounds and landscaping, paint some shutters, do general clean up and just give some loving care to our shared home.

I hope you can make it for some of the time.

Looking forward to Sunday!

This week we will return to our study of the Book of Acts by going through Acts 19.

I want to remind you that Acts is the story of the early church. As we see how the church developed in the Book of Acts, we can see what God has in mind for our church as well. I encourage you to read Acts 19 and ponder how/why the events you read about are relevant to our church today.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Read Acts 18 and we’ll talk about it tomorrow.

Looking forward to Sunday!

This week we will finish Acts chapter 17. More specifically, we will focus on Acts 17:29-34– the conclusion of Paul’s sermon on Mars Hill (Aeropagus).

The last 2 weeks we’ve seen that Paul presents 6 foundational principle– 6 foundation stone– on which we can and must build our lives. To recap, here’s what Paul has already  said:

#1: God EXISTS

#2: God is the ORIGIN of all things

#3: God is the MORAL AUTHORITY over all things

#4: God is SELF-EXISTENT and SELF-DEFINING

#5: Go created YOU

#6: God wants a RELATIONSHIP with you

Now Paul hits the big point in his sermon– now he is going to show how these truths come together and have a profound effect on our lives.

Join us as we, too, listen to Paul’s words. We will also be sharing the Lord’s Supper together this week.

Looking forward to Sunday!
