We will be having our Sunday service and a potluck brunch at the Browning’s house this Sunday (September 16).

If you can, bring some food to share with everyone and we will eat and worship together.

There is a chance we will get some bad weather from hurricane Florence, but it seems to be heading further to the south now.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Spiritual Gifts

October 12, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

How can I discover my spiritual gifts?

Last week we talked about how God gives spiritual gifts to those in the church so that they can be used to build up the body of Christ.

Below is some information you can use to help discover what your gifts are– they are the notes we will use in this week’s Bible Study.

1 Corinthians 12:1

Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

There are many different tools to help us discover our spiritual gifts. I have selected an on-line tool that I found to be easy to use and helpful.

Think of this as a starting point to learn about different spiritual gifts and the gifts you may have. The best way to determine spiritual gifts is not a test or assessment like this, but rather, serving others in the body and having them affirm your gifts as you use them.

Go to:                        www.spiritualgiftstest.com/test/adult

Click on the “Continue as a Guest” button.

The test will come up.

Answer each of the questions and follow the prompts.

Print out your results  (there is a “Print your Results” button on right side)

Read the “definitions” of your top 3 gifts

Bring these results to the small group on Wednesday (10/14/15) to discuss.

Here are some questions to consider:

1)    Was this a “hard” test for you to take? If “yes” why do you think it was?

2)    Do these gifts surprise you? Why? Why not?

3)    Can you think of an example when you were able to use this gift to serve others in the church/body?

4)    How could you use these gifts to “build up” those around you in the church?

5)    How have you seen others use their gifts to build you up?

6)    How can you use your spiritual gift this week for the benefit of others in your church?

April 6th News

This week we will continue a new series entitled Promises from the Upper Room.

In John 15, Jesus uses a vivid metaphor to describe how a Christian can lead a productive, effective, and God-glorifying life. But it stands in a stark contrast to the way the world tells us how we can active these goals.

I believe that all of us want to live of life of meaning and significance. How does that happen?

Join us as we hear the secret of living an abundant, productive and fruitful life from Jesus-the author of life himself.

To prepare for this sunday, read John 15:1-8 and learn the Jesus Promises a Productive Life.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will begin a new series entitled Promises from the Upper Room.

In this series we will focus on John 13-17. These chapters all take place on the night that Jesus was betrayed and arrested. It is a time when he communicates the last important thoughts he wants his disciples to hear before he leaves. He wants us to hear them as well.

As we head toward Easter, it seems to be a perfect fit to focus our hearts and minds on the last words of Jesus to his friends.

To prepare, read John 13:1-17. It is the story of Jesus washing his disciples feet. It is amazing to think that he chooses this activity to start their last night together. What does it tell us about Jesus? What does it mean about us?

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we conclude our series called  The Lord of the Story.

We will look at one more story from the Old Testament that I believe everyone knows something about. For some, it’s hard to swallow (hint). Other find the fact easier to stomach (hint). After reading it, you may have to change direction (hint) with some of you opinions about God. This is a story that will give perspective to the storms (hint) we may face in life.

Know what story we will be looking at this week?

To prepare read the Book of Jonah. It’s only four chapters and a very interesting narrative that challenges us on many levels.

Also, please pray for Frank Dunne, his wife Selina and their family as Frank is away in Tibet on a missions trip. He left Thursday morning at 3:20am and will be away for about two months.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
