Series: The Lord’s Prayer

Message: Hallowed Be Thy Name

What does it mean to hallow God’s name? In this message we look at both God’s name and what “hallow” means and we discover that God loves us more than we could ever hope of imagine.

November 2nd News- Honor Your Father and Mother

Series: The Heart of the Ten Commandments

This week we will look at the fifth commandment found in Exodus 20:12…

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

This week we move from the first four commandments that show how we are to love and relate to God to the second six commandments that show how we are to love and relate to others.

For many, this commandment is particularly difficult to process because they may not have had a parental experience that could be described as honorable. With that reality, how can we approach this commandment with the intent on discovering why God gave it. I do not think we can ignore it- but how can we move forward amidst the many emotions involved.

The first thing we must do is to rely on the Holy Spirit to teach, guide, reveal, and heal. My prayer is that we gain an understanding on God’s intent and then contemplate why this can be so difficult to obey.

Please ponder this commandment before Sunday. Take some time to think about your own experiences- but also reflect on how we can live out this commandment in the midst of our questions and challenges.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

October 26th News- The Fourth Commandment

Series: The Heart of the Ten Commandments

This week we will look at the third commandment found in Exodus 20:8-11…

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

There are a lot of questions that come to mind when we read this commandment. What can we do on the sabbath and what is forbidden? What does it mean to “keep it holy”? Why is it so important to God?

Each of these 10 commandments challenge each of us on many different levels. I believe this one is marginalized and abused by all of us- I know that God has been convicting me about how I approach this command.

But I believe that we will see, once again, that there is incredible beauty and love and grace in these words. And I believe that God has some things to say to you that will bless you this week!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

October 19th News- The Third Commandment

October 17, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

The Heart of the 10 Commandments

This week we will look at the third commandment found in Exodus 20:7…

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God

This is an interesting one because I think we brush past it very quickly. Most of us think this is simply talking about using God’s name when we are swearing (cussing). It is… but there is much more to it than that.

To be honest, preparing for this message has challenged me more than I thought and has uncovered some views that I need to repent of and correct. I think you will be stretched by it, too.

*****REMINDER:*****

WE ARE MEETING AT OUR NORMAL SERVICE TIME OF 9:15AM AGAIN.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
