July 15th News– Samson

July 13, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: Introduction to Samson

This week we will begin looking at the best known judge in the Book of Judges. In fact, he is probably one of the better know characters in the Bible. His name is Samson and he is a rather complex hero of the faith.

How much do you know about Samson’s story.

To begin, we will consider the conditions in Israel when Samson comes on to the scene (and see a lot of similarities to our world today).

To prepare, read the story of Samson found in Judges 13-16.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

July 1st News– The Fruit of Apostasy 2

June 29, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Fruit of Apostasy 2

Lat week we looked at The Fruit of Apostasy as we studied Judges 9 and the story of Abimelek. It is not a pleasant world when we abandon God and try to live apart from him.

This week we will continue to see what it is like when we abandon God for the idols of the world.

To prepare, read Judges 10. In this chapter, there is something very interesting that takes place that is a bit difficult to understand… See if you can identify what I am referring to and we’ll unpack it on Sunday.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

June 17th News– The Comfort of Gideon

June 15, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Comfort of Gideon

This Sunday we will finish the story of Gideon.

Last week we saw that Gideon overcame incredible odds to rout the Midianites in battle. But it was actually God who provided the victory.

This Sunday, we see how Gideon finishes the battle and then, perhaps more importantly, how he handles the comfort and peace that comes to Israel.

To prepare, read Judges 8.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

June 10th News– The Conquest of Gideon

June 8, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Conquest of Gideon

This Sunday we will continue the story of Gideon.

Finally Gideon is fully prepared for battle. The time to defeat the Midianites has arrived.

To prepare, read Judges 7:8b-25.

As some of you already have heard, I took a tumble down our stairs last Monday morning at 3:30am. Thankfully, my head, neck, and back did not sustain any major damage. My left shoulder, however, seemed to be the thing that took the brunt of the force. I had surgery last Monday and returned home Tuesday afternoon. I believe that recovery is going well (I’ve never gone though something like this before) and the pain is under control.

I will be there Sunday and am prepared to preach! Please continue to pray for healing… And for my family– they are serving me well and generously.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

May 27th News– The Conditions of Gideon

May 25, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Conditions of Gideon

This Sunday we will continue the story of Gideon.

Gideon has torn down the altars to pagan Gods in his father’s house and he seems ready to do what God has called him to do. But we’ll see that Gideon needs some more persuasion from God.

How often do we find ourselves second guessing what we believe God is telling us? I think we all spend a lot of time wrestling with this. What does Gideon do? What should we do?

To prepare, read Judges 6:33-40.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Conviction of Gideon

This Sunday we will continue the story of Gideon.

God has told Gideon that he would use him to save Israel from the oppression of the Midianites. But first, God will begin by preparing Gideon with a smaller mission.

To prepare, read Judges 6:25-40 and focus on the story about the altars.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

May 13th News– The Call of Gideon

May 11, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Call of Gideon

This Sunday we will continue the story of Gideon.

Last week we saw that the people of Israel, again, turned from God– and, again, God pursues them.

This week we will look at whom God chooses as the fifth Judge of Israel. As we do, we will see some truths about God that we need to remember as we face the challenges in our lives.

To prepare, read Judges 6:1-24 and ask yourself this: What does this story reveal about God.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

May 6th News– The Condition of Gideon

May 4, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: The Condition of Gideon

This Sunday we will begin the story of Gideon.

You will not be surprised that Judges 6 begins with this familiar line:

The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord

When will they ever learn?!? Why would they keep messing around with sin when they’ve seen the disastrous results of such an endeavor? Don’t they know better?

Perhaps a more relevant question is this: Why do I keep messing with sin? Don’t I know better?

The beginning of Gideon’s story surprised me because I think it reveals a lot about us and our struggle with sin. It is a universal condition that can only be overcome one way.

To prepare, read Judges 6:1-10.

Also, we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together this weekend.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

April 28th News– Deborah & Barak Part 2

April 27, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

Series: The Gospel According to Judges

Message: Deborah & Barak Part 2

This Sunday we will continue to look at the story of Deborah and Barak.

Last week we saw that the people of Israel, once again, rejected God and went their own way. This, once again, led to their bondage under a foreign power. They, one again, cried out to God for deliverance and God, once again, provided a leader to free them. Even though God’s people keep rejecting him, God keeps pursuing them.

This week we will see two more things in this story that is true for us as well.

To prepare, read Judges 4 and 5 again.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
