This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 5:7-12, Paul continues his argument against legalism (the teaching of the Judaizers). In this passage, he uses the phrase “the offense of the cross.” What does that mean? Why is it important to understand?

To prepare, read  Galatians 5:1-12.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

Paul has just told us “we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.” (Galatians 4:31). He says that we are free from the bondage of religious rites and rituals.

In chapter 5, he begins to explain what he means by “freedom”.

To prepare, read  Galatians 5:1-12.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 4:21-21, Paul uses a story from the Old Testament to continue his theological defense of grace versus law. He actually preaches a mini-sermon in the midst of this letter to the Galatians.

Last week we looked at the story in Genesis. This week, we’ll see what Paul has to say about it. And it is amazing.

To prepare, read  Galatians 4:21-31.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

First of all, I hope that everyone was safe during hurricane Dorian. I am grateful that the storm wasn’t that bad in Virginia Beach.

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

We’ve been talking about the “weird ways of God”. Now we will talk about the weird ways of men.

Paul uses a story from the Old Testament to continue his theological defense of grace versus law. He actually preaches a mini-sermon in the midst of this letter to the Galatians. We will look at what he says, but also, explore the original text to which he is referring. It is the story of Hagar and Sarah– and to understand Paul’s point, we need to be familiar with that story.

To prepare, read  Galatians 4:21-31, Genesis 16:1-15, and Genesis 21:1-21.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

Last week we talked about The Weird Ways of God. We will continue exploring that idea again this week.

During his ministry, Paul learned a lot of lessons. Perhaps the greatest was that he learned to trust God. As wonderful as that sounds, we must confess that it is difficult.

Why? Because we usually learn this lesson best when we face challenges in our lives. And frankly, we don’t like those much. But that is the road we must take to learn to trust.

To prepare, read  Isaiah 55:6-9, 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, and 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 4:8-20, we see how Paul got to Galatia in the first place. It wasn’t by choice.

Do you ever feel put in a position you didn’t choose? Do you ever wonder why God let’s certain things happen? And prevents other things?

We all do. And that’s because God can act in weird ways sometimes. At least they seem weird to us. Maybe we should talk about that.

To prepare, read Galatians 4:8-20 and Isaiah 55:6-11.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 4:8-20, Paul continues to plead with the Galatians to turn from adding anything to what Jesus has already done. He is upset because they are going back to the law to be acceptable to God and that is actually leading them back into slavery.

We have seen Paul’s frustration, and now we will see his heart.

To prepare, read Galatians 4:1-20.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 4:1-7, we saw last week that Paul says we are slaves to the law and to elemental spiritual forces of the worldThose forces revolve around the idea of karma– you get good when you do good and bad when you do bad. And this idea has even entered the church.

Paul makes a startling statement about what God does to overcome these forces through Jesus. Grace is far superior to karma. It is a gift that allows us to become children of God forever.

We will finish Galatians 4:1-7 and see exactly what God did for us.

Also, I want to remind you that we will have a potluck lunch following the service at the Hasty’s home (2636 Wimbledon Point Dr.). Bring yourself and something to share!

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series on Paul’s letter to the Galatians.

In Galatians 4:1-7, Paul defines what it actually means to be a child of God. This is incredibly important because it establishes our identity in Jesus Christ. We will see that God did this because he wanted to and offers life in his family as a gift.

When we grasp this, we can rest in who he is and what he has done and focus on sharing this good news and his love with others.

To prepare, read Galatians 4:1-7.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug
