Happy New Year! 2014 has arrived and we have started a whole new year.

Regardless of how last year went and this year started, we have a reason to celebrate and be glad. Each day is new because of Jesus. Do you realize that? Do you believe it?

I believe that it is true, but I often struggle to live with that kind of optimism and hope and joy.

As we begin 2014, we will focus on trusting God and his word to lead and direct our lives. Last week we renewed some vows by looking at the first five Guidelines from God for 2014. This week we will see the other five.

These guidelines represent some godly resolutions that can transform us each and every day.

Looking forward to Sunday… and 2014!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Well, it’s that time again…

We’ve celebrated Christmas and now turn our sights on a brand new year. Many times, this is a period of reflection on the past year and planning for the new year. In that process, we must consider what God is telling us.

For the next two weeks we will look at some biblical principles that will guide us into the new year. They are familiar– but worthy of remembering once again because we some often forget.

Join us as we look at some godly resolutions for 2014 and review what happened in 2013.

Looking forward to Sunday… and 2014!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Just a reminder that our Christmas Eve service is from 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesday, December 24th in the Fellowship Hall of Hilltop Community Church (where we normally meet). This will be a beautiful time to bring someone to church to hear the incredible story of Jesus!

Again– WE WILL START AT 5:30… I know that I already said that, but I’m serious… really… I’ll be there at 4:00pm with the music team, so you can come any time after that.

Also, check out the website at www’grace2f.org. Can listen to last week’s message (The Greatest Story Ever Told) and/or see last week’s sermon notes.

Looking forward to Christmas Eve!

Grace and peace,

This Sunday we will focus on the Christmas Story (makes sense, huh?)

There are a lot of stories that we love based on the Christmas season. Many of us have certain movies or shows that we watch every Christmas that touch our hearts or take us back to younger years.

These are a great part of Christmas, but they can cause us to miss the real story.

Join us Sunday as we look at Christmas as I never have before we a message entitled The Greatest Story Ever Told.

And bring a friend! This is a time of year when people are willing (and maybe even NEED) to go to church when invited.

To prepare read Luke 2:1-21 & 2:34-35; Isaiah 7:14 & 9:6; Micah 5:2.

Looking forward to Sunday! CHRISTMAS IS LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!!!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will conclude our series What It Means to be a Disciple of Jesus.

Over the last 9 weeks we have seen that a disciple displays several characteristics. We talked about how a disciple is:

1) A Student— Constantly reading and thinking about the Word of God

2) A Prayer— Regularly talking with and listening to God

3) A Worshipper–Continually acknowledging who God is, who I am and how He relates to me

4) A Friend— Consistently involved with fellow believers in the context of a church community

5) A Neighbor— Repeatedly reaching out to those outside the church community to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs

6) A Missionary— Intentionally going out to spread the gospel and “neighbor” with those far away

7) A Servant— Willingly giving of yourself to benefit and bless others

8) A Messenger— Habitually sharing the gospel– Good News– of Jesus with others

9) A Giver— Commonly sharing your money and possessions with those in need

As we finish this series, we will see that a disciple then pours into others by “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:20). In other words, a disciple then becomes a TEACHER– reproducing themselves and what they have learned in others.

This may seem a bit intimidating. Most of us feel that we are not really great disciples in the first place– how are we supposed to teach others how to be one?!? A key is found in the first word of each of the descriptions… Another key is at the end of The Great Commission.

To prepare read The Great Commission this week– Matthew 28:18-20.

And if you feel overwhelmed about being a teach in discipling,  remember a phrase we have used before:

God does not call the equipped, he equips the called.

Discipleship is not a mystery to be solved, a formula to be memorized, or a program to be implement… It is a life to be lived– and God’s design for using his people to restore the world.

Pretty cool stuff, huh? And just think, he chose you to be a part of it…

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series What It Means to be a Disciple of Jesus.

Last week we talked about how a disciple is a MESSENGER– one who brings the good news about Jesus and what he has done to save us from our sins and give us a new life and purpose.

This Sunday we will see that a disciple is also a GIVER.

As we enter the Christmas season, this is an especially relevant topic. According to Paul in Act 20:35, Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” We say this; we teach our kids this; and I think we believe this to a degree… But do we live this?

If I am honest, I really like receiving... And you do too.

But it is clear from scripture that a true follower of Jesus– a disciple— is a passionate and generous giver.

To prepare read Luke 12:13-21. This passage is commonly is referred to as The Parable of the Rich Fool, and we will see that it descibes each of us in some way– regardless of the amount of money you have.

I want to encourage you to come a hear what God has to tell each of us this week because “giving” is an issue of the heart and has an eternal value that we may never realize and/or often forget.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series What It Means to be a Disciple of Jesus.

Last week we talked about how a disciple is a SERVANT. This Sunday we will see that a idisciple is also a MESSENGER with a very important and specific message.

To prepare read Romans 10:8-17.

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series What It Means to be a Disciple of Jesus.

I want to thank Frank Dunne for filling in while we were away at my niece’s wedding in Tampa (thanks for your prayers– we had an incredible time!). I listened to his message and it was very powerful, challenging, and inspiring. I hope to post it in the next couple of days and encourage you to listen to it though the “Messages” section on our website… If you have never been to our website it is at www.grace2f.org. It is up dated each week with messages, notes, and announcements.

This Sunday we will see that a disciple is also a SERVANT. I know that we all know we are supposed to be servants– but, if we are honest, we often approach church and even Jesus not as a servant but as a serve-me. This will lead to problems and steal a great deal of joy from your life.

To prepare read Mark 10:35-45.

We will also hear a bit about the results of our pledge drive and the vision for Grace2F moving forward. I know that this is a busy time, but THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SUNDAY TO BE AT CHURCH!

HOPE TO SEE YA’LL THERE…

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week our family will be traveling to Tampa Florida for the wedding of my oldest niece Erin. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to officiate the wedding and look forward to being with the entire family. Please pray for us and this time.

On Sunday, Frank Dunne is going to follow up last weeks’ message on being a “neighbor” by sharing some of his experiences as a missionary to the people of Tibet. He has some really great stories and will provide a practical context to discover how disciples can be neighbors all over the world.

I want to encourage you to come Sunday to get a vision that extends beyond the walls of our church. To prepare, read Luke 10:1-24.

Looking forward to Sunday!!

Grace and peace,

Doug
