Series-The Book of James: Faith + Action
This Sunday we will conclude our study of the Book of James by seeing another area of life that we are called to submit to God. Last week we talked about submitting our treasure– money and possessions– to God. This is no easy task. And this week, we address, perhaps, an even more difficult area of life that we need to submit to God: suffering.
James ends his book where he started by talking about trials and testing. He was writing to Christians who were undergoing great persecution and suffering, and James wanted to focus their attention on God.
He is writing to us as well. We all experience suffering in life. In fact, many of us are in the midst of very difficult and trying situations right now. What does James say to us?
To prepare for this Sunday, read James 5:7-20 and James 1:2-4 (you will see how he begins and ends on the same topic). And come Sunday ready to lay whatever you are dealing with at the foot of the cross. My prayer is that you will find encouragement and hope in the words James shares– the words God wants you to hear this Sunday.
Looking forward to Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Doug
