Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will focus on this section of the Apostles Creed:

the communion of saints,

We’ve been talking about the church for the last couple of weeks… Now we come to this phrase. What does it mean? How do we do it?

That’s what we will be looking at this Sunday. We will also be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together.

To prepare, read Ephesians 4:1-6 and 1 Corinthians 1:10-17.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will focus on this section of the Apostles Creed:

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

Our focus for the next couple of weeks is going to be “The Church”. Most of us have a view of what the church is all about. But where did we get that? From churches we’ve attended? From our parents? From the movies? From what other people say about the church?

We are going to look at scripture to try to answer this simple, but sometimes confusing question: What is the church?

To prepare, read Ephesians 2:1-22. In this chapter, we will see what binds each person in a church together and why that can sometimes be rather challenging.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

May 10th News-The Apostle’s Creed: Holy Spirit

Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will focus on this section of the Apostles Creed:

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

It is interesting that this is a short, simple statement of faith. We don’t get a whole lot of information about the Holy Spirit here (certainly not when compared to what the Apostles Creed says about Jesus). I believe that the Holy Spirit is often misunderstood. If you’ve been around church for any length of time, you’ve certainly heard about the Holy Spirit, but do you know what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit.

Sunday we will have an overview of the nature of the Holy Spirit, the work of the Holy Spiritand our need of the Holy Spirit.

To prepare, read what Jesus says about the Holy Spirit in John 14:15-27 and John 16:1-12.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

May 3rd News-The Apostle’s Creed: Jesus Christ

April 30, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will focus on the second section of the Apostles Creed:

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, died, and was buried;
      he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
      He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

As you can see, the description of Jesus takes up a significant portion of the Apostles Creed. This clearly points to the fact that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of the Christian faith.

Join us Sunday, as Pastor Troy Smith explores this section of the Creed and reveals some of the unique and incredible truths about Jesus.

To prepare, read Hebrews 4:14-16 and Matthew 16:13-16.

Also, I want to remind you that we will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper this Sunday and we will have a Potluck Church Brunch after the service. If you can, bring some food for people to share and join us!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

April 26th News-The Apostle’s Creed: God the Father

April 23, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will focus on the first line of the Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

What you believe determines how you live your life. With this in mind, it is important to determine what you believe and why you believe it.

Studies tell us that most Americans believe that there is a God. The question is this: What do you believe about the God you say you believe in? And a good follow up question to that is: Why do you believe what you believe about the God you say you believe in?

As we look at the statement in the Creed we will discover a Biblical perspective on God the Father (the first person in the Trinity). Why is this important? Because what you believe about God determines how you will relate to him and, in turn, how you will live.

To prepare, read Acts 17:16-31 as see what Paul says about God to a group of philosophers in Athens. Then read Romans 1:18-25 to see the results of living with a distorted view of God. Finally, Read Psalm 139:1-16 to understand the relationship between God and the people he created.

Grace and peace,

Doug

April 19th News- New Series: The Apostle’s Creed

April 15, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Series:The Apostle’s Creed– What Do You Believe?

This week we will begin a new series called: The Apostle’s Creed… What Do You Believe?

Here is what we will be talking about the next 6 weeks…

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

What you believe determines how you live your life. With this in mind, it is important to determine what you believe and why you believe it.

As we explore the statements in The Apostle’s Creed, we learn the basic foundations of the Christian faith. Each week we will look at a section of the Creed and discover what we believe and why we believe it– and how this can effect how we live our lives.

This week, in our introduction to the series, we will consider the two words that start the creed: believe…

To prepare for the message, read Hebrews 11 and Matthew 16:13-18.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
