Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus on the Cross- The Wrath of God

This Sunday, we will finish our series about the last 24 hours of Jesus’ life.

In his last 3 hours on the cross, a cosmic transaction was made on our behalf. Jesus became sin and was punished in our place. We hear those words a lot in church, but what do they really mean? How did it happen? Why did it happen?

To prepare, read Mark 15:33-41, Matthew 27:45-56, Luke 23:44-49, John 19:28-30, and Psalm 22.

Thanks to Mike and Tasha Hasty for opening their home to us last Sunday after church and for all the great food everyone brought!!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

August 20th News: Jesus on the Cross– the Wrath of Man

August 17, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

Series: Walking with Jesus– 24 Hours That Changed The World

Message: Jesus on the Cross- The Wrath of Men

This week, we will continue looking at the last 24 hours of Jesus’ life.

We are now with him on Golgotha- the site of his crucifixion. He will be on the cross for six hours. Sunday we will focus on the events that occur in the first three hours– a time one theologian has called “The Wrath of Man.” In spite of the pain, the evil, and the injustice, Jesus does incredible things.

To prepare, read Luke 23:33-43. You should also read Matthew 27:35-44, Mark 15:24-32, and John 19:18-27.

Many thanks to Dallas Stamper for preaching the last two weeks while we were visiting family and Michael Hasty for setting up the church.

REMEMBER:

We will have a potluck lunch after the service at the Hasty’s house. Bring something to share (if you can!) and join us.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

April 5th News- Easter & Stories of the Cross Part 3

March 31, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Series:Stories of the Cross

This week we will conclude our three-part series called Stories of the Cross where we have been  looking at three stories from the Old Testament that foreshadow and point us to what Jesus did when he was crucified and raised from the dead.

Two weeks ago, we saw in Genesis 3 that God seeks after lost people and there is a price to cover our sin and shame.

Last week, we talked about Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and were reminded of the story of Abraham traveling up Mount Moriah to sacrifice his son, Isaac in Genesis 22.

So we have seen that God pursues lost people, he covers their sin, and he provides a sacrifice for sin.

Sunday, we will celebrate Easter by looking at how the Passover story in Exodus 12 reveals the greater work that Jesus did in his death, burial, and resurrection.

Please prayer for our service this Sunday– and the opportunity to invite your friends and family to join us in this beautiful celebration of what God has done for us through Jesus. Also, we are having a time to eat and be together after the service at the Browning’s house (2004 Wood Hollow Cove in Baycliffe– off Mill Dam Rd, past First Colonial High School and Cape Henry Collegiate). If you can, bring something to share and come and join us!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug
