Series– The Vision of Grace Family Fellowship: Who Are We?

Message– A Celebrating Community 2

This Sunday, we will conclude our series asking the question: Who Are We?

In Luke 15, we see Jesus telling people about the heart of the Father for his lost children. There is a pattern: something is lost; the Father searches for it; the Father finds it; there is a great celebration in heaven.

This is, indeed, good news… For everyone who realizes they are lost and then found.

This week we see that some people never realize their “lostness”. This means they never accept the love of the Father and, instead, resent the grace he offers.

To prepare, read Luke 15– focusing primarily on verses 11-32.

Also, we will be celebrating the birth of Colton with Joseph and Kairi this Sunday. If you are able, bring in a gift card to present to the new mom and dad (Walmart, Target, etc.). My wife, Sara, will have a basket that we will use to hold the cards– so please give your gift card to her when you arrive.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series– The Vision of Grace Family Fellowship: Who Are We?

Message– A Celebrating Community

This Sunday, we will this series where we’ve been asking the question: Who Are We?

In Luke 15, Jesus tells 3 stories that reveal the heart of God toward lost sinful people. In them, we hear about celebration. This Sunday we will look at these beautiful pictures of God love for us– and see why we, too, have great cause to celebrate!

To prepare, read Luke 15:1-32.

Also, after the service,  we will have our second “Family Meeting” to discuss the opportunities we have as a church. I believe this has been a great time for each of us to consider why this church is important and where we are going next. I hope that you will join us for a brunch and discussion of things to come! If you can, bring some food to share,

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series– The Vision of Grace Family Fellowship: Who Are We?

Message– A Generous Community

This Sunday, we will continue to ask the question: Who Are We?

In Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 4:32-36, we get a picture of the early church in Jerusalem. We see many characteristics that identify a group of believers. But one that is obvious and extraordinary is their generosity– towards both those inside and outside the church.

As we continue to think about Who Are We? as a church, we must address the issue of how we handle our money and possessions. The major theme we see in scripture is this idea of generosity.

To prepare, read Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 4:32-36.

I want to, again, encourage everyone who calls GFF your church home to make every effort to attend this entire series.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Series– The Vision of Grace Family Fellowship: Who Are We?

Message– A Missional Community

This Sunday, we will continue to ask the question: Who Are We?

That’s important because who we are will determine where we go and what we do. This week we will see that our God is a missional God and he wants us to come together to be a missional community.

But what does that even mean? That’s our focus for Sunday as we spend the month of April thinking and praying about the next steps for Grace Family Fellowship.

To prepare read Acts 1:8 and Matthew 9:35-38.

I want to, again, encourage everyone who calls GFF your church home to make every effort to attend this entire series.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

A Description of “Biblical Community”

April 8, 2016 by · Leave a Comment

Last week in our Sunday service, we looked at the stunningly beautiful community experienced by the early church in Acts 2:42-47. We saw how committed these believers were to one another and how powerfully that community impacted those around them.

As I was preparing for the message last week, I received an e-mail from an organization I really like called TRUEFACE. In it, they included a review of a book they wrote called Bo’s Cafe.I read this at our church meeting last week because I love the way the writer draws out the essence and beauty of real, authentic community… And I wanted to share it here because I believe it is an excellent definition for the kind of community we are called to in the Bible.

“Community—a place where we belong and are accepted—even when we do all we can to make others believe that we aren’t worthy. Community means standing together with each other, fully recognizing and disclosing our own blemishes and accepting others in the humility of knowing their path is not much different than our own. But, much more than that, a community of grace gently insists that we are lovingly honest with each other and ourselves about our sin and our needs. In openness and vulnerability, we can lay it all out on the table, and in return, receive a depth of love and protection that we never imagined. This, in turn, leads to the freedom to be transformed and truly move into maturity.”

URGENT: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE FROM GRACE FAMILY FELLOWSHIP

Series– The Vision of Grace Family Fellowship: Who Are We?

Message– A Committed Community

This Sunday we will begin a new series about the vision of our church.

Why are we here? What is my role? Where are we going? Why are we going there? How do we get there?

These are all important questions. And it’s time to answer them.

But we need to go through this process together. A church is a beautiful collection of people trying to discover how to follow Jesus and love each other. The journey can be fun, exciting, and inspirational… and challenging, exhausting and painful. But one thing that I believe with all of my heart is this: the journey is worth it.

We have been a church for 10 years. The journey has taken us from meeting in a home, to a hotel, and now to a church fellowship hall (and we’ll be heading somewhere else pretty soon!). We have ventured to Nicaragua, served at PIN Ministry to help the homeless, supported missionaries in Brussels, partnered with a church at Russell House, and helped a pregnancy center in Newport News.

Whenever you travel a long distance over a long period, it is important to stop, occasionally, pull out your map and compass and get your bearings. That is what this series is about. Whether you packed your bags with us at the start or you joined the procession recently, I urge you to commit to coming to church for the next 5 weeks to see and determine what this church will become.

To kick things off, we will have a “family meeting” this week after our service. This is a time to hear about where we have been and where God is leading us next. It is a time to ask questions, share ideas, and get to know your fellow travelers… And it is a time to eat (bring something to share if you can!).

If you call Grace Family Fellowship your church home OR if you are considering becoming a more integral part of this community, please stay for this meeting.

If you are a friend of this church and are receiving this because you have supported this ministry in the past, please join us in praying for the next 5 weeks as we clarify the vision God has for this people.

To prepare for Sunday, read Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 8:1-8. Also, think about this ministry and pray for the meeting.

I am very excited to share what God has been showing me and hearing what he is showing you!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

This week we will continue our series in the Book of Nehemiah by looking at Nehemiah 2:16-20.

In the passage this week we will learn about another “brick” Nehemiah gives us and it is important one for each of us and the church as a whole.

Be sure to look below for info regarding the Grace2F Wednesday Night Bible Study starting May 29th and PIN Ministry Sunday June 30th!

Looking forward to Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Doug

Grace2F Wednesday Night Bible Study

Clever name, huh? Well, in my time in ministry I have spent hours in meetings to come up with cool, relevant, and engaging names for services, meetings, and ministries. I figured I’d just name it what it is… A chance to gather and look at Scripture together during the week.

So, I want to invite you to join us for a great opportunity to get to know each other a little better, look at some scripture, and see how we can apply it to our lives.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Each week, you will get an e-mail with the study (Scripture passage and questions to consider) a few days before the group meets.
  • Then, someone will explain a little bit about the passage and we’ll read it.
  • After that, we go through the questions and hear what you and others think about the passage and issues it relates to.

We’ll be starting this study called  Maturing in Christ: “Called to Disciple” on Wednesday, May 29th. We’ll meet at the same place we meet on Sunday mornings– Hilltop Community Church Fellowship Hall– from 7:00pm to 8:30. The study is six-weeks long so you can come try it out. If you can’t make all six weeks, that’s okay, because the studies can stand alone as well.

Here is a brief description and the weekly topics:

Now that I’m a follower of Jesus, what do I do next? I need to think through my priorities… my relationships… my goals in life. And I need a group of people to help stay the course.

•May 29th–  Under new Management
•June 5th–   Eternal Values
•June 12th–   Kingdom Priorities
•June 19th–   Quiet Time
•June 26–   Servanthood
•July 3rd–   NO GROUP
•July 10th–   Called to be a Witness
I hope that you can be a part of this experience. If you’ve never been to a Bible study/Small group, don’t be worried– just jump in and give it a try!
