Series: The Heart of the 10 Commandments

This week we will begin a new series called, The Heart of the 10 Commandments.

I believe that most of us are familiar with the 10 commandments. But I also believe that most of us don’t really understand them. On one hand, they are pretty straight forward. Do/don’t do these 10 things and everything will be great. On the other hand, these 10 things are hard to do/don’t do! In fact, if we are honest, we would have to admit that we fail at them on a daily basis (sometimes moment by moment!).

So what’s the deal? Why did God give them to us? What do they mean?

We will spend the next 11 weeks asking those questions together– because God has a lot to say on the subject. This week we will be introduced to what they are, why they are important, the biggest challenge they present, and the solution to that challenge. Then we will spend the next 10 weeks looking at each commandment individually.

To prepare, read Exodus 19 and 20 (the 10 commandments are in Exodus 20, but Exodus 19 helps set the stage a bit).

I encourage you to read the scripture and begin thinking about your own views on the 10 commandments. My prayer is that we will go below the surface of initial impressions and responses and discover the beauty and grace that exists at the heart of the 10 commandments.

As a reminder— this week is the last Sunday that  GFF and FCC will be meeting together. The service begins at 10 am.

In October, both churches will move back to their own times and service (Grace Family Fellowship- 9:15; Faith Community Church– 11am)

Looking forward to Sunday!
